Slim and aerodynamic - the DRS saddle is designed for riders with an aggressive riding style who prefer a more curved geometry at the edges of the saddle. It is for those who always push themselves to the limit in the breakaway and demand that their equipment perform at the same level. If you like an aggressive riding position, but like saddles that allow extra pedaling efficiency due to the curved edges, then this is the saddle for you!
The DRS is a racing saddle. It uses a large cutout from back to front to allow the rider to ride as fast as possible with full pelvic rotation, without sacrificing comfort in the perineal area. Wider saddles have always been a double-edged sword. They provide a large platform to allow the rider to apply maximum force, but often lead to bruising on the backs of the legs during longer rides. The rolled edges of the DRS allow those who push their speed to the limits to fully extend their legs during the pedal stroke and reduce the contact of the wider seat of the saddle with the hamstring muscle.
The core of Smanie is that they always push the limits of what they can do to make the saddles more environmentally friendly. They start producing all their products from recycled materials. That includes the covers, foam, bases, rails and even their packaging.
The DRS is the evolution of the modern racing saddle. Its sleek lines beg for speed. It is short, but long enough that the profile of the saddle creates a clear space for the sit bones to rest. It takes away the thought of which position is best for a powerful riding position, creating a clearly defined position through the gentle slope from the back to the center part of the saddle. The DRS is 247mm long and 145mm wide - short, sleek and speed-oriented.
The DRS has a classically understated appearance that makes it a clear choice for anyone who wants to keep the focus on the bike itself. Black saddle, black graphics keep the saddle simple but stylish. That doesn't mean the saddle isn't packed with features. The curved rail purposefully gives the saddle one of the most fore and aft rail adjustments of any saddle on the market. The understated graphics are deliberately placed to give the saddle a bit of grip without going overboard. The unique design of the spring base keeps the saddle stiff enough for optimal power transfer to the pedals, but gives just enough to dampen road vibrations.
Length: 247mm.
Riding Position: Aggressive/Race
(Smanie saddles sometimes have 2 of the same saddles, but these differ in weight and price, this is because they are different. The main difference between the two saddles is the use of the chromoly rail, which is much lighter than the steel rail, and also the padding material. The steel rail or sports saddles use PU foam and the chromoly rail saddles use EVA foam. EVA is much lighter than PU and offers more comfort during longer rides, because the foam can withstand extreme deformation after 3 hours, while PU much more begins to distort.)
